Rub it in! Rio Ferdinand gives Liverpool and Man City fans more reasons to love him

Why meet with triumph and disaster and treat those two imposters just the same, when it's so much more fun to gloat?!

Rio Ferdinand took a subtle dig at deposed champions Manchester City by claiming Sir Alex Ferguson's side had won the title "the right way".

City clinched the title at Manchester United's expense on goal difference last season, Sergio Aguro's 94th-minute goal against QPR winning it by the finest of margins.

But Ferdinand said United, who secured the title with four games to spare and currently hold a 16-point lead over nearest pursuers City, had reclaimed it with more conviction.

"It's always sweet when you win the title and it's nice to do it here, in the right way and in style, not on goal difference," said Ferdinand.

"We've won it outright and we've won it comfortably.

"It just shows the resilience and attitude the manager has instilled in us.

"A lot of teams would probably have fallen away.

"We played Liverpool a couple of seasons ago when they were fighting for the title, we beat them and got to the league before them and they've not been seen since.

"That shows the mentality and character that this club has."

Ferdinand also paid tribute to the impact made by Robin van Persie, who has scored 28 goals in his first season for the Red Devils.

"Robin has been a big factor," said Ferdinand. "Last season we lost on goal difference, which tells you that we didn't score enough goals.

"We brought in a man who was top scorer in the Premier League last season and he looks like he's going to do that again this season.

"He's definitely added to what we had already."

The coach of Ghana Black Stars, Kwesi Appiah, is set to expand his football know-how, as he begins a week-long knowledge sharing programme with English Premiership side, Manchester City.

Ghana Football Association President, Kwesi Nyantakyi confirmed Appiah's training with the Manchester team, a programme that is a part of preparations towards Ghana's qualifying match in the 2014 FIFA World Cup with Sudan in June, reports futaa.com.

Technical tips

The Ghana coach will share technical tips and football ideas with City coaches at their training ground led by Italian boss, Roberto Mancini.

The training program will be the Black Stars coach's second visit to the former Premiership champions and is part of a cooperation agreement between the Ghana Football Association and Manchester City.

Apart from the course, the Black Stars coach is also expected to monitor players of the national team as the European season reaches the concluding stages.

PLATT URGES MAN CITY TO RETURN TO WINNERS DAIS

Manchester City first team coach David Platt says the club will bounce back from this season’s Premier League title loss.

Last season’s champions have already been beaten byManchester United in their title defence quest with the Red Devils 16 points clear with four games remaining (five for City) but Platt says the club is determined to return to the winners list after feeling such hurt.

"I see a lot of people saying where did it go wrong for us," Platt toldSky Sports News.

"I think we have had a little bit of a lack of consistency and not won as many games as we could have but you have to give Manchester Unitedcredit for the pace they set because the amount of games they won, it would have been hard for any team to stay with them.

"There has to be a determination amongst ourselves. It is not good when you hurt, when you lose it. When you set a season off and you think that you have an opportunity to win it like we did, and like they did last year, that feeling, that hurt is much deeper and more profound than when you win it."

Kompany staying at Man City

UPDATED APR 23, 2013 6:43 AM ET 07:49 | 0 Comments

Vincent Kompany has vowed to stay at  Manchester City, saying: "I have no reason to go."

Following last season's title win, this campaign has been something of a disappointment with below-par showings in the Barclays Premier League and Champions League.
That has been enough to spark speculation over the future of the City captain, with Barcelona mooted as a possible destination.
