Manuel Pellegrini is ready to make a move for Real Madrid’s fiery defender Pepe as he tweaks Manchester City's squad.

New City manager Pellegrini is a big admirer of the talented but controversial centre-half, whom he managed during his time at Real.

Last season, Pepe was branded an “idiot” by Wayne Rooney on Twitter after being captured on TV stamping on the hand of Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.

Deposed Premier League champions City believe the 30-year-old Portugal international would form a formidable centre-half partnership with their skipper, Vincent Kompany.

Outspoken Pepe clashed with new Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho during the Special One's time in charge at the Bernabeu, criticising him for his treatment of keeper Iker Casillas.

Madrid have been aware of City’s interest for some time , and earlier this month president Florentino Perez declared they would fight to keep the centre-back:

“Pepe is not for sale and will not move this summer - at least that’s my opinion.”

Carlos Tevez's legal team have vowed to make sure the former Manchester City striker "abides by the rules" with regard to his community service order following his transfer to Italy.

Tevez was sold to Turin-based Juventus earlier this week, with the striker signing a three-year deal with the Italian champions.

However, though he has started to fulfil the 250 hours of unpaid work he was ordered to do by Macclesfield Magistrates Court earlier this year after Tevez was found guilty of driving offences, the vast majority are still outstanding.

Whilst it is impractical for Tevez to complete the hours prior to reporting for pre-season training in Italy, Probation Service chiefs have already suggested they would have no hesitation in applying for a warrant to arrest the 29-year-old if no agreement had been reached about how he was going to fulfil the remainder of his punishment.

Tevez's legal team are currently attempting to sort the matter out but are adamant the South American, who spent seven years in Manchester with United and more recently "noisy neighbours" City, will not be flouting the law.

"No rules or regulations have been broken in relation to Carlos Tevez's community service order," they said in a statement released this afternoon.

"We are acting on behalf of Mr Tevez to make sure he abides by all the rules."

A source from Tevez’s legal team said: “It’s a bit of a situation. We’re going to have to go to court and look for a re-sentence.”

Lawyer Nick Freeman said a suspended sentence was likely due to the “unusual circumstances”.

Manuel Pellegrini pleased to add pace to Manchester City squad after signing Jesus Navas and Fernandinho

New Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini believes adding more pace to his squad puts them in better shape to regain their Premier League title.

The Chilean has spoken of speed being a key component in the armoury of the club's two summer signings Jesus Navas and Fernandinho.

Pellegrini is looking to add more before the start of the season, but appears to be losing the battle to be reunited with Isco, whom he coached at former club Malaga.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder is also being tracked by Real Madrid and it appears they are winning the race.

"Real Madrid are a team that excites me. They are one of the best teams in the world," Isco told Spanish newspaper AS.

While Pellegrini may ultimately have to look elsewhere, he is delighted by the two acquisitions already made.

"Jesus is a player I know well from La Liga and he is someone I have admired for a long time," he said.

"He is quick, has excellent technique and I think the City fans will enjoy watching him play.

"He will provide a variety of attacking options for us and he can also score goals as well as create them for others.

"He is an excellent signing for the club.

"Jesus is a world and European champion and a regular squad member in a very special Spain team."

Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho has been brought in from Shakhtar Donetsk and Pellegrini said the 28-year-old was one of his major summer targets.

"I made Fernandinho one of the top priorities. He has impressed me on a number of occasions over the past few years and is another player I've taken a keen interest in," the Blues boss told mcfc.co.uk.

"He is an experienced international who will further strengthen our midfield and I think he will be well suited to the Premier League.

"He is a superb athlete with a wide range of passing, can score goals and most importantly, can quickly turn defence into attack.

"Both Jesus and Fernandinho add pace and skill to what is already a very talented and successful squad.

"I am looking forward to working with both our new signings and to working with the players who have already won a Premier League title together.

"We have a very strong pool and together we aim to achieve great things."
