Besiktas still wants Adebayor

Emmanuel Adebayor (R) in action against Sunderland's Cabral in Hong Kong

Besiktas remain keen on signing Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor if they can escape a ban for alleged match-fixing.

Adebayor's future at Tottenham has been the subject of intense speculation all summer with Spurs thought to be in the market for striking reinforcements.

Besiktas have confirmed their interest in Adebayor, but fear a ban from European competition will scupper their chances of landing the former Arsenal and Manchester City man.

Besiktas face a ban from the 2013-14 Europa League for alleged involvement in match fixing, but they have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and are confident of getting the decision overturned.

If the club are successful in their appeal Besiktas president, Fikret Orman, has revealed he is ready to fly to London to tie up a deal for Adebayor.

"We are interested in Adebayor, the transfer could still go ahead," Orman is quoted as saying in the Daily Mirror.

"The deal breaker for Adebayor was whether we would play in Europe this season, as soon as we are cleared I will travel to London and complete the deal."

Barcelona in shock move for Man City star

Barcelona made a shock enquiry for Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero earlier this summer, according to reports in Spain.

The Argentine endured a difficult 2012/13 season after what was a stunning debut campaign in English football following his move from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011 - a season which culminated in the title-winning goal against QPR.

And there had been speculation that Real Madrid were considering a bid to bring the 25-year-old back to Spain. But now El Confidencial report that Barcelona made an enquiry earlier this summer - one that was immediately rejected by City.

The newspaper reports that Barcelona President Sandro Rossell was keen on Aguero despite signing Neymar, with the Argentine seen as a direct replacement for David Villa.

Yet City boss Manuel Pellegrini made it clear that he sees Aguero as an integral part of his side at the Etihad and refused to countenance a sale. And Barcelona appeared to accept their decision and moved on to other targets.

Negredo suits English soccer

City's Alvaro Negredo is looking to make an impresssion in his first season.

Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo claims he is suited to the Premier League and insists he's more than a goalscorer.

The summer signing fromSevilla is known as 'The Beast' but the 27-year-old feels he has technical quality to go with the physical threat.

"It makes me laugh when they call me the Beast," Negredo told reporters. "But, yes, I think I am a strong player, who can fight and be physical.

"I think I have some qualities that will suit the Premier League. I think my style suits the game in England, but I also like to believe that I have good technical ability as well.

"It was my team-mates who first started calling me the Beast of Vallecas. But it became so popular that the media in Spain also started to use the nickname as well.

"I think I can be both the physical and technical. There are some matches where the physical approach is important and other games where you can show off your skill.

"I like to think I am a player with many qualities. I have a strong all-round game. I am not just a goalscorer, I think I also work hard for the team and play my part in the game."

Negredo is just part of the £90million player investment under new boss Manuel Pellegrini and the Spaniard is anticipating City will be an attacking outfit with the Chilean coach at the helm.

Negredo added: "Mr Pellegrini is known in Spain for the attractive style of his football.

"Whether he was at Villarreal, Real Madrid or Malaga, his teams always played dynamic, attacking football, with style, and I am sure that is why Manchester City wanted him.

"I am also sure it will be even better at City because of the quality of players he now has to work with. The squad is so talented here that there is only one option - to attack."

Barry could leave Man City

City midfielder Gareth Barry may have to consider his future.

Gareth Barry could walk away from Manchester City at the end of the season after admitting the club have yet to speak to him about a new deal.

The England international has a year left to run on his current contract and despite new boss Manuel Pellegrini reassuring him that he is part of his plans, Barry remains in the dark over his future.

Barry, 32, who joined City from Aston Villa in a £12m deal four years ago, admits he is disappointed there has been no offer.

"It's just a case of wait and see, as far as a new contract is concerned," Barry told the Sunday Mirror.

"I haven't heard anything about a new deal from the club, so it looks as though my contract will run out next summer and I'll have to take it from there.

"The manager has spoken to me. He told me that he sees a place for me in his squad as he wants two quality players in every position.

"I've got to admit that, with Yaya Toure, Javi Garcia and now Fernandinho in the squad, it's going to be tough for anyone to nail down a position in central midfield. I'm a bit disappointed that there's been no offer, but I haven't got myself too down about it."
