Negredo suits English soccer

City's Alvaro Negredo is looking to make an impresssion in his first season.

Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo claims he is suited to the Premier League and insists he's more than a goalscorer.

The summer signing fromSevilla is known as 'The Beast' but the 27-year-old feels he has technical quality to go with the physical threat.

"It makes me laugh when they call me the Beast," Negredo told reporters. "But, yes, I think I am a strong player, who can fight and be physical.

"I think I have some qualities that will suit the Premier League. I think my style suits the game in England, but I also like to believe that I have good technical ability as well.

"It was my team-mates who first started calling me the Beast of Vallecas. But it became so popular that the media in Spain also started to use the nickname as well.

"I think I can be both the physical and technical. There are some matches where the physical approach is important and other games where you can show off your skill.

"I like to think I am a player with many qualities. I have a strong all-round game. I am not just a goalscorer, I think I also work hard for the team and play my part in the game."

Negredo is just part of the £90million player investment under new boss Manuel Pellegrini and the Spaniard is anticipating City will be an attacking outfit with the Chilean coach at the helm.

Negredo added: "Mr Pellegrini is known in Spain for the attractive style of his football.

"Whether he was at Villarreal, Real Madrid or Malaga, his teams always played dynamic, attacking football, with style, and I am sure that is why Manchester City wanted him.

"I am also sure it will be even better at City because of the quality of players he now has to work with. The squad is so talented here that there is only one option - to attack."

Barry could leave Man City

City midfielder Gareth Barry may have to consider his future.

Gareth Barry could walk away from Manchester City at the end of the season after admitting the club have yet to speak to him about a new deal.

The England international has a year left to run on his current contract and despite new boss Manuel Pellegrini reassuring him that he is part of his plans, Barry remains in the dark over his future.

Barry, 32, who joined City from Aston Villa in a £12m deal four years ago, admits he is disappointed there has been no offer.

"It's just a case of wait and see, as far as a new contract is concerned," Barry told the Sunday Mirror.

"I haven't heard anything about a new deal from the club, so it looks as though my contract will run out next summer and I'll have to take it from there.

"The manager has spoken to me. He told me that he sees a place for me in his squad as he wants two quality players in every position.

"I've got to admit that, with Yaya Toure, Javi Garcia and now Fernandinho in the squad, it's going to be tough for anyone to nail down a position in central midfield. I'm a bit disappointed that there's been no offer, but I haven't got myself too down about it."

Man City Place Bayern Munich Striker Mario Gomez at Top of Summer Striker Wish-List

Citizens eyeing up Bayern’s Mario Gomez amongst others.

Manchester City are drawing up a shortlist of potential replacements for Carlos Tevez according to The Independent.

Tevez left the club on Wednesday evening to join Juventus in an £8 million deal. That has left City with a hole to fill in their squad as the industrious forward was often present in the starting eleven.

The club are currently reeling from Isco’s snub after the Malaga youngster decided to join Real Madrid instead of linking up once more with his former mentor Manuel Pellegrini.

They are ready to move fast now to secure their targets and have drawn up a list of four potential signings.

Top of their list is Bayern Munich’s Mario Gomez, who is available for around £20 million after falling out of favour at the Allianz Arena.

The club are also thought to be taking a look at Sevilla’s Alvaro Negredo, who has also been interesting the likes of Everton, Arsenal and Tottenham in recent months.

Roma’s Pablo Osvaldo is another option as Manuel Pellegrini knows the player well from his time in La Liga with Espanyol.

Benfica’s Oscar Cardozo is also a possibility but it is thought that City will turn to him as a last resort as the forward is not getting any younger at 30 years old.

Manchester City target Bayern Munich's Mario Gomez to fill void left by departing Carlos Tevez

Mario Gomez: one of four targets City wants to replace Tevez

Manchester City have listed the Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez as one of four targets as they move rapidly to rebuild their strike force after the departure of Carlos Tevez to Juventus.

An Italian and Spanish striker are also in City's sights - Seville's AlvaroNegredo and Roma's Pablo Osvaldo - and with the situation fluid on all players, the fourth individual in contention as the goalscorer City badly needed is Benfica's Oscar Cardozo, who has had a bitter falling out with the Portuguese club's manager and is definitely leaving the club. Benfica are demanding €17m (£14.5m) but would take €15m (£12.8m)

The £20m Gomez is the most exciting prospect though - and open to move from Bayern Munich having fallen down the pecking order following the signature of Mario Mandzukic, with the prospect of a further drop if Robert Lewandowskiarrives from Borussia Dortmund, later this summer. The 27-year-old's three goals at last summer's European Championship saw him replace Miroslave Klose as Germany's preferred centre forward but his rapid fall from supremacy has seen his agent admit weeks ago that a summer move is a possibility.

City need a player of Gomez's calibre, with Tevez and Mario Balotelli now gone and Manuel Pellegrini's hopes of Premier League success currently resting on just two recognised strikers - Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko. Gomez has also been linked with Napoli and Chelsea, among others, but on Wednesday, his agent denied suggestions that a deal had been agreed, taking him to Fiorentina. Gomez scored 19 goals last season, despite being used as a substitute most of the time, and began pre-season training with the European Champions 48 hours ago.

At 30, Cardozo is older but has a phenomenal record in Europe and his agent Jorge Mendes is moving him on, following the player's row with manager Jorge Jesus. Cardozo was involved in an angry exchange with Jesus - shoving him when he was substituted 20 minutes from the end of Benfica's Europa League final with Chelsea last month. He was ordered to show up at the club on June 17th, ahead of training starting next Monday and failed to do so. He will now miss the main pre-season training camp at Evian. Rumours of the possibility of Cardozo being a City target have been circulating since last week. A move to the Premier League has become a firmer possibility since a move for the player to Fenerbahce began to fall through because of the club's ban from Champions League football because of a match-fixing conspiracy.
