Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria is reportedly a target for both Manchester United and rivals Manchester City.
There has been much speculation in Spain about Di Maria's future at the Bernabeu, and earlier this year he was allegedly recently involved in a bust-up with coach Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho continues to be linked with a return to Chelsea, and reports in Spain have suggested his departure would lead to a clearout at the Bernabeu, with Di Maria believed to be one of several first team players who could be offloaded by Los Blancos when the transfer window reopens.
Di Maria, who has previously been linked with Chelsea, has been on United's radar for some time, but according to the Daily Star, Man City are also showing interest as manager Roberto Mancini looks to strengthen his squad for next season.
And according to Marca, Di Maria - who has also been linked with clubs from Italy as well as big-spending Paris Saint-Germain - is open to a move to the Premier League.
Any move for Di Maria from United would almost certainly lead to renewed speculation about Nani's future at Old Trafford, while Antonio Valencia could also be offloaded should Sir Alex Ferguson look to sign the Argentine.
Sir Alex has confirmed he plans to make at least two new signings this summer, but how high Di Maria's name is on his list of transfer targets remains to be seen.
Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski continues to be linked with a move to Old Trafford, while reports earlier this week once again suggested United are looking to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to the club this summer.
United chief executive Ed Woodward has, however, played down the chances of a summer spending spree at the club.
"I wouldn't expect there to be a major retooling of the squad," he said.
"There is incredible depth. We could put two first teams out with 11 internationals in each. It has been a phenomenal season.
"We are a long way ahead in the Premier League and, whilst I wouldn't describe the way we got knocked out of the Champions League as luck, things could have gone differently in that game.
"We have a young squad and each of those are a year older. We are very comfortable with the make-up of team and squad."
